Dental Crowns Columbia, SC

Do you have a cracked or broken tooth that can’t be easily restored by a simple filling? Not sure what to do about deep decay or prolonged and painful tooth deterioration?

You’ve come to the right place. For nearly 30 years, Columbia, SC dentist Dr. Thomas Trinkner has been helping patients who experience these issues rebuild their smiles with conservative dental procedures. In many cases, dental crowns have proven to be the most successful restorations for a range of cosmetic and restorative needs:

  • Tooth damage
  • Tooth decay
  • To strengthen a tooth after a root canal
  • Discolored tooth
  • Misshapen tooth

You’ve likely heard the term tossed around before, but what exactly is a dental crown? More than a mere cosmetic solution, a dental crown is a restoration that covers the tooth, like a cap, to strengthen teeth and restore function. Dental crowns can be made from a variety of materials, but Dr. Trinkner prefers non-metal restorations such as porcelain dental crowns for a highly natural-looking restoration.

Dr. Trinkner will create a personalized treatment plan to fabricate a custom dental crown that will seat comfortably on the tooth and align with your natural bite. The process for dental crowns usually takes two visits. On the first appointment, Dr. Trinkner will conservatively prepare the tooth using special ultrasonic tools. A temporary tooth crown will be placed to protect the tooth as well as demonstrate the results of the proposed treatment.

The final restoration will be fabricated in a dental laboratory, carefully made from fine layers of ceramic. On the last visit, Dr. Trinkner will permanently secure the crown on the tooth. Because of the amount of time spent in the treatment planning, this last visit is often very quick and predictable. Your new dental crown will last a lifetime with good oral hygiene and routine dental care.

Dental Crowns Before & After in Columbia SC

When Mimi came to our Columbia, SC dental office, her chief concerns were to reestablish a more youthful smile and replace old style dental crowns that did not look natural. She’d had extensive work on two of the teeth from early childhood issues. Using more modern ceramic materials that can block color, we were able to create a beautiful smile with improved color and form. She has continued to enjoy her new dental crowns for several years.
